A Kezzler consumer scan is not a food traceability event

Kezzler places QR engagement, smart packaging, compliance, and traceability on a shared connected-product foundation. A scan can deliver useful product content and engagement evidence, but it does not by itself prove receiving, transformation, shipment, custody, quantity, or affected-lot scope.

A traceability event needs an accountable business context

A food traceability record connects identified food or a defined lot to an accountable activity at a location and time, with the relevant trading party, quantities, source records, and any required event data. Kezzler's current site describes a connected-product foundation spanning traceability, compliance, smart packaging, and QR engagement. It says QR scans can deliver personalized content based on product, location, or campaign and create engagement analytics.

A consumer interaction answers a different question. The scan may show that a code was presented to a device at a time and may carry product or campaign context. It does not by itself show who received or shipped the food, where a supply-chain event occurred, which lot was transformed, what quantity moved, whether the item is authentic, or whether every affected unit can be located. The system should relate these records without treating them as interchangeable.

Keep code identity, scan observation, and lot event distinct

The product-code record should preserve identifier type, issuer, product and packaging level, assignment rules, serialization or lot relationship, status, and version. The scan observation should retain the presented code, timestamp, application or channel, approximate context with its precision and consent limits, response delivered, campaign, anomaly flags, and processing history. It should not invent a supply-chain actor or event from device location alone.

The traceability event needs its own event type, lot code, product, quantity and unit, location identifiers, trading partners, source document, event time, recording time, input and output links where transformation occurs, correction history, and responsible business. If a scan is linked to a lot, that relationship should point to the maintained identity and event records rather than duplicate or overwrite them.

Use scan anomalies as investigation signals

Repeated scans, scans outside an expected market, impossible travel, an inactive code, or interaction after a disposition date may warrant investigation. Each can also have benign explanations: code copying, shared packaging, resale, travel, imprecise geolocation, testing, returns, clock differences, or a delayed data feed. An anomaly should create a case with evidence and accountable review, not an automatic conclusion about diversion, counterfeiting, custody, or safety.

During a food incident, consumer interactions may help identify questions or communication needs. Recall and trace decisions still depend on the hazard assessment, affected-lot genealogy, quantities and locations, trading-partner records, distribution, inventory and disposition evidence, and the authority of the responsible business and regulator. Engagement analytics should not expand or narrow affected scope without those records.

Run one code through engagement and traceability tests

A useful demonstration should issue a code linked to a food lot, capture production and shipment events, deliver consumer content on a scan, detect a duplicate scan in another market, correct a lot association, and open a response case. Reviewers should reconstruct what the scan observed, what the supply chain recorded, which identity link changed, how the consumer response was updated, and why the affected-lot conclusion did or did not change.

Kezzler's official site supports the described connected-product, QR-engagement, smart-packaging, compliance, and traceability positioning, but no code, lot, scan, location, consumer, supply-chain event, genealogy, anomaly, investigation, configuration, implementation, or outcome was independently tested here. Food businesses and their safety, quality, regulatory, supply-chain, privacy, recall, and legal owners retain their decisions.

Enterprise buyer test

Translate this change into the exact population, record type, workflow stage, decision owner, effective date, and evidence that could be affected. Ask current or prospective providers to demonstrate the named workflow with representative data and an exception—not a polished feature tour. Record what official documentation establishes, what a provider states, what the team observes, and what remains unresolved.

A defensible review also identifies the dependency outside the product. Authority interpretation, policy configuration, data quality, integrations, human judgment, approval rights, release governance, training, and retained evidence may remain customer or service responsibilities. The evaluation should preserve those boundaries instead of treating a technology claim as the complete operating model.
